How did you come to work for Linear?

After 10 years with a major main contractor the pandemic hit the UK and as the first lockdown came into play a lot of the work I was involved in was put on hold and eventually, I was left looking for other opportunities. But I believe that so often when bad things happen, they actually put us on the path to something good, and this was definitely the outcome for me. It has been a breath of fresh air joining Linear Projects and could not be happier. Working for an ambitious and growing business is something I am very excited about and I look forward to growing in line with the clear vision and great values in place here.

Tell us about your role?

As Site Manager, my role is to ensure works are planned, organised, and coordinated to achieve the timings set out on the project programme, as well as ensuring tasks are carried out in the correct manner and undertaken ensuring optimal safety and efficiency.

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

For me, I really enjoy forming relationships with colleagues and the main contractor site management team to ensure everything runs efficiently, as well as creating a positive and vibrant environment to collaborate in.  It also still excites me to see key milestones being hit on time and being part of a completed project when at the handover stage.

What is the proudest moment in your career?

I received an award at an annual company presentation for outstanding health and safety standards and always care about this as a central part of the job.

Who has influenced you most?

I have worked with many skilled and knowledgeable colleagues over the years, and I like to think I have learned much from each of them.  But it is important to reflect on those who perhaps teach us what not to do as we learn and develop throughout our careers.

Away from work, my daughter, Scarlett is also a true inspiration to me every day and gives me the extra drive to succeed when I need motivation.  She leaves inspirational quotes regularly by the front door at home so I read them before leaving the house in the morning and it definitely gives me an extra boost.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

Resource availability can often be a challenge with ever-changing programmes and deadlines so planning in advance is key between the main contractor and ourselves.

What makes Linear different?

For me, there is a different feel about working here than anywhere I have worked before.  It feels more close-knit with strong relationships throughout the business.   It is most definitely an exciting time for the Group with continued growth and it’s great to be involved with such an ambitious and motivating team.

How have things changed since you joined?

Coming from a main contractor business helped me get to where I am today.  I know how the main contractor works and this helps me to be proactive rather than reactive. Since joining things have changed, but all for the better as the business has grown and invested in its own success.

How would others describe you?

I’ve never really thought of this before but for me personally, I am honest, always speak to people the way I would like to be spoken to, always try to be as helpful as possible and always willing to go the extra mile, so I’d like to think that’s what most people think of me.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy football and over the last 12 months I have got into playing regularly again, twice a week so slowly getting my fitness back to some sort of acceptable level.   I used to be a bit of a DJ back in the day so still love to jump on the decks at home now and again as music is something I really enjoy. Most of all I love spending time with my wife and daughter.
