Since establishing Linear Projects, over 30 years ago, the Group has taken a progressive approach to evolution, expanding its footprint, its expertise and its teams in line with clear ambitions, client needs and market opportunities.

1993
John Holmes Contractors is established, starting out as a labour-only business with a team of 20 tradesmen specialising in drylining and suspended ceilings.
2002
Business evolves into Linear Projects with Stephen Holmes appointed as Managing Director.
2003
Linear Projects delivers its first supply and fit project.
2004
Turnover exceeds £1 million.
2007
Linear Projects secures the £11 million Forth Valley Acute Hospital contract, the first of many major healthcare projects.
2008
Linear expands its UK presence, moving to a new office in Queenslie, Glasgow and opening a new Manchester office, with Dale Zahra appointed Regional Director.
Gareth Holmes and Tommy Steele are appointed Directors, while the workforce grows to 150 tradesmen.
2010
Turnover exceeds £5 million.
2011
Accreditation achieved ISO 9001 & ISO 14001, CHAS.
2015
Accreditations strengthened with ISO9001 & 14001, Achillies, BM Trada Fire Door, FSC®(FSC-C143372), Considerate Contractors, Constructionline, FIRAS & SSIP.
2016
Turnover surpasses £10 million, with a team of 200 tradesmen.
2017
Scott Paterson joins Linear Group as Group Commercial Director
Linear Projects secures its largest project to date, the £20 million Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre with Robertson Group.
The client list now includes ISG, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall, Morrison, Multiplex, Overbury, Robertson and Sir Robert McAlpine.
2018
Stephen Holmes is appointed CEO of Linear Group, with Gareth Holmes appointed Managing Director of Linear Projects.
Linear Design & Construct (LDC) launches, with Ryan Broadley appointed Managing Director.
Group turnover reaches £19 million.
2019
Group turnover reaches £25 million, with the office-based team growing to 80 employees.
LDC secures its first two significant projects in Edinburgh and South Ayrshire.
2020
Group turnover reaches £32 million.
LDC Manchester secures five projects worth £4.5 million within its first six months, with a team of nine.
Linear Building Compliance (LBC) launches and joins the Linear Group, with Andrew Shankland appointed Managing Director.
2021
Linear Fire Safety (LFS) launches, expanding the Group’s specialist fire protection offering.
Linear Living is established, delivering premium and affordable housing across Scotland and the North West of England.
2022
The Scottish business moves to a new state-of-the-art office at Maxim Business Park, Eurocentral.
2023
Linear Group celebrates 30 years in business and secures its largest development to date, Trafford Gardens.
2025
Group turnover of £78m achieved.
2026
Trafford Gardens successfully completed and handed over.
Linear secures planning for largest development to date, Lord Street.
