Linear's Commercial Lead, Shaun Gilmour, is swapping his desk for the roads and water of Spain this July as he takes on IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
Inspired by his own personal family experience to raise funds for St Ann’s Hospice in Manchester, Shaun decided to give back to this hugely worthy cause in order to say thanks to the hospice nurses who went above expectations to make his wife’s parents comfortable, showing the utmost compassion and care.
On 16th July this year, Shaun will undertake his first IRONMAN event in the Spanish town of Vittoria Gasteiz. The tough event will see him swimming 2.4 miles (3800m) cycling 112 miles (180km) and running a 26.6 mile (42.2km) marathon all in a single day. With 15hrs and 40mins to complete the course in the warm Spanish sunshine, Shaun is hoping the training will pay off and bring him home well under the max time.
Commenting on the challenge Shaun said, “From 6.30 am swims, hard track sessions and long weekend cycles and runs, this has been the most challenging training I’ve ever undertaken but being spurred on by my incredible wife and kids and colleagues in the office, including Cath who reminds me to eat or makes me some food, makes such a huge difference. Also, the motivation to raise as much money as possible for St Ann’s Hospice has really helped me on those early morning and long sessions and I am so grateful to everyone who donates to support me.”
