LDC completes handover of The Bothy and Tur for Clyde Gateway

Linear Design & Construct has successfully completed The Bothy and Tur at the much-loved Cuningar Loop Woodland Park in Rutherglen. Recently handed over to Clyde Gateway, The Bothy features multi-functional spaces for both community and business use, whilst in the north of the park, the Tur offers a viewing platform with ramped access to enable visitors to take in expansive treetop views over the city.

Designed by JM Architects, the building is sympathetic to its surrounding location, encouraging the protection and nurture of the wildlife and species within the 37 acres of woodland. The facility includes a community meeting space with toilets, changing facilities and cycle storage.  The new Bothy and Tur makes extensive use of home grown timber and off-site manufacturing with extensive Timber Cladding and Timber Structure for the Tur. During the project, LDC in partnership with Clyde Gateway ensured many local contractors were involved in the construction.

LDC delivered the project to the highest of standards utilising their Zonal Working Strategy for management of Quality and Safety to the delight of the client. Due to the location of the project in the centre of the park and on the banks of the River Clyde, LDC ensured a Project Specific Environmental Management Plan was in place and monitored throughout the project. This included innovative measure to protect the surrounding wildlife and watercourse.

Commenting on the project, Ryan Broadley, Managing Director of LDC said:  "We are delighted to have handed The Bothy and Tur over the Clyde Gateway and playing our part in making this innovative woodland park add such value to the local community.  For us this has been much more than just a job, working with the local community alongside an exceptional design team, as well as facilitating local job and training opportunities has made it a real landmark for our team.”

Alison Brown, Senior Manager, Development at Clyde Gateway, said, “The buildings, carefully designed by JM Architects to consider their landscape setting, include structures being clad in charred larch sourced from Scotland and The Bothy incorporating a green roof.  These new facilities further enhance the huge recreational and economic benefits our popular Woodland Park has to offer."
